ZEFFREE AZMI is proud to share accolades of its involvement in power and energy advisory work wherein the Firm was engaged by Advanced Power Solutions Sdn Bhd, an engineering consultancy company, in respect of a system study conducted by the company for energy and power transfer from Bakun Hydro-Electric Plant in Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia. The objective of the aforesaid study was to ascertain all legal prerequisites, implications and consequences arising from the implementation of the said project from the engineering and technical perspective, particularly in relation to the installation, operation and maintenance of submarine cables, overhead transmission lines and its components (including converter stations). The Firm rendered advice in respect of all regulations, rules, circulars and directives enacted or issued by the Federal Government of Malaysia, State Government of Sarawak and International laws including law of the sea and land territorial limits relevant to the said project. The said study has marked the Firm’s involvement in power and energy work and related transactions particularly so since the said study not only required the Firm to advice on the legal aspects of transmission of power supply per se but also the legal requirements entailing the intricate minute processes involved in structuring the development and implementation of the said project from deliberations on legislation related to land acquisitions to the input on power purchase agreements contracted between parties involved in the project as well as considerations of environmental and health issues all for the purpose of ensuring that the project is lawfully and appropriately carried out.

The Firm had also been retained for several other notable engagements including by a renowned financial institution in Malaysia to undertake work relating to conversion of conventional loan/financing portfolios (for fixed deposits, mortgage and corporate loans/financing accounts) over to Shariah compliant platform, utilising appropriate Shariah financial mechanism and instruments which encompassed the entire processes and milestones involved from the legal perspective and input from beginning to end i.e. planning, securing of governing authorities’ approvals, drafting, verification, execution, implementation and legal advisory related thereto
